School Governance

A. Fantis School is governed by the School Board, which operates under the authority of the Board of Trustees of Sts. Constantine and Helen Cathedral.

The Board and School Committee collaborate to set policies, support the school principal, undertake strategic planning, evaluate the performance of the school and lead financial support of the school.

Dr. Katherine Tsamasiros

School Committee Chair
Dr. Katherine Tsamasiros is the Senior IT Governance Officer for the New York City Department of Education’s Division of Instructional and Information Technology (DIIT). Past pedagogical positions at NYCDOE included District 20 Instructional Technology Director and professional developer. Katherine started her career as a fine art and technology teacher in a middle school in Brooklyn. Previously, she was an adjunct faculty member at Nova Southeastern University working with doctoral students. Katherine holds a doctoral degree in Instructional Technology and Media from Teachers College, Columbia University. Katherine has New York State certifications in K-12 Art Education and School District Administrator. Additionally, she is Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) from ISACA, and has ITIL Foundation Certification. Katherine is a long-standing parishioner of the Sts. Constantine and Helen Cathedral community and member of the A. Fantis School Committee.

Dean Paravalos, Parent '12, '15

Dean has been part of the community since his baptism, with strong ties to both the church and school. His children, Nicholas and Angelique, are A. Fantis alumni and he has been married to our beloved PreK-3 Teacher, Ms. Patty, for nearly 30 years. Dean graduated from Carson Long Military Academy and works for Volmar construction as a project manager and owner representative for new construction affordable housing throughout New York City. After completing his first term as Board of Trustees President in 2015, Dean has decided to serve again to give back to the beloved community.

Dr. Panagiota Tampakis Fantis '02

Dr. Panagiota Tampakis is a Lecturer and the Program Advisor in the Department of Biobehavioral Sciences in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program at Teachers College, Columbia University. Clinical and teaching areas of interest include providing culturally responsive assessment and intervention for pediatric speech and language disorders, autism spectrum disorder, expressive-receptive language disorder, central auditory processing disorder, childhood apraxia of speech, ADD, ADHD, and reading and writing disorders. Panagiota has worked as a speech-language pathologist in the New York City Department of Education where she provided speech-language therapy in a high school setting. Panagiota received her BS in Communication Disorders from SUNY New Paltz, her MS in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from New York University and her Clinical Doctorate (SLPD) from Northwestern University. Panagiota is a licensed speech-language pathologist in NY, is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and holds a certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD). Panagiota is a long-standing parishioner of the Saints Constantine and Helen Cathedral community.

Dr. Aspasia Hotzoglou Fantis '03

Dr. Aspasia Hotzoglou earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University and is a proud alumna of A. Fantis School (Class of 2003). She completed her APA-accredited internship at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center, specializing in prolonged exposure therapy. Currently, Dr. Hotzoglou serves as a Senior Staff Psychologist at the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy, where she applies cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based approaches in her work with adults, adolescents, and families. Her areas of expertise include anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and anger management, with a focus on perfectionism, insomnia, and health anxiety. She has extensive training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and excels in treating individuals with borderline personality disorder and emotion regulation difficulties.

Constantine Vassilakos, Fantis ‘71

Constantine “Dino” Vassilakos is an A. Fantis alumni of the graduating class of 1971, along with fellow board member, Jim Tampakis. He has served dutifully on the Church Board of Trustees since 1989, during which time he has held various positions, such as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and currently Assistant Treasurer. Dino currently works in real estate management.

Jim Tampakis, Fantis ‘71

Jim was a student at A. Fantis on its opening day in 1963, but left for Greece with his family in 1970 after his brother Tom graduated from the school. Jim lived in Greece for 4 years, where he attended the American Community High School in Athens. When he returned to the US, he obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration from Baruch College in 1980. Jim has been President of Marine Spares, an international shipping parts supplier, for several decades. Jim joined the Church Board in 1983 and was married at the Cathedral the same year. Jim and his wife, Michelle, have three daughters, all Fantis graduates. He joined the School Board in 1988 and served as the President of the Board of Trustees twice. The first time he served as the president, he oversaw the reconstruction of our Cathedral after a fire in 1991. Jim co-chaired the Anniversary Committee to celebrate the church’s 100th and school’s 50th anniversary events in 2013. One day soon, he believes they are going to say "Get rid of the old dog.” In addition, Jim’s granddaughter Emilia has been in A. Fantis for the last 2 years, and in September will have 2 additional grandchildren entering Fantis. Our Community is his second home.

Daniel Hunt, Parent '21, '24, '28

Dan was born and raised in a San Francisco suburb, where he wore a uniform as a parochial school student until the 8th grade.  He received a degree in economics and mathematics from another Christian institution, Santa Clara University, in 1997.  While working in the United Kingdom in the field of investment finance, he met his bride-to-be, Andromachi (Maola) Karasoula.  Dan and Maola were married in St. Nicholas church in Glyfada, Greece in 2007, and have three children, all current students at A. Fantis.  He is a Managing Director and Head of Portfolio Construction at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.  Dan became a School Board member this year and is excited to give back to an institution and a community that shares his values and has been supportive and welcoming to his family from the start.
