Meet our UPK Director – Ms. Carol Moore
Mrs. Moore has a successful 40+ career in the Public School system, beginning as a Physical Education teacher and culminating as Principal of The Mark Twain Intermediate School for the Gifted and Talented. While teaching at PS 95 in Brooklyn, Ms. Moore started the 1st parent chapter at an elementary school for the “Council of Unity”, an organization at promoting tolerance, racial harmony, and understanding. During her tenure at Mark Twain, a large percentage of students were accepted to specialized High Schools including Stuyvesant, Brooklyn Tech and LaGuardia, a Performing Arts School to name a few. Ms. Moore collaborates with our UPK Teachers and ensures the implementation of quality early childhood curriculum, reviews educational plans, and provides reflective leadership through the coaching and mentoring of teachers.
Kindergarten: “Whatever the problem—be part of the solution!”
Our Bridge to the World is a S.T.E.M. activity, that had student research 3 different types of bridges: arch, suspension, and beam, and work together to build our own using various materials. Building this beam bridge with thin wooden planks was not so easy, because the planks would not stay up long enough to complete the whole bridge. Their first idea was to glue two planks together so the beams could be more sturdy. Glue however, was not an option because we would ruin the planks. So, then they thought of using tape and rubber bands. They learned first-hand that giving up is NEVER a “solution”!
