In Pre K for All, children engage in hands-on activities and are given the opportunity to learn through play and exploration.Pre-K for All’s research-based Interdisciplinary Units of Study, created by the Division of Early Childhood Education (DECE) in collaboration with researchers, support student learning in all domains using developmentally appropriate practice.Domains:

Approaches to Learning
Physical Development and Health
Social and Emotional Development
Communication Language and Literacy
Cognitive and Knowledge of the World
Social studies
The Arts

Pre K for All Students learn through center based play as they use materials that will challenge and expose them to new vocabulary, interact with other students for social and emotional development and are encouraged to problem solve, while the head teacher and teacher assistants circulate to promote discussion and meaningful conversations. Students select the center they would like to explore such as art, science, table toys, sand and water, dramatic play, kitchen, and library.

Furthermore, during center time, students are invited to work with their teachers in small groups on a specific topic that is related to various interdisciplinary units. These units are grounded on the Prekindergarten Foundation for the Common Core.

Students are encouraged to engage with books throughout the day. Read alouds occur in large group and small group meetings. Supporting stories compliment focus questions and areas of interest that are related to each theme. Additionally, the students enhance the lessons of these read alouds through “picture walks”, the use of character puppets, group activity and peer discussion.

In addition, students have the opportunity to study Greek, music, art, and gym, enabling them to become more well-rounded individuals. Walking trips in our vibrant neighborhood gives our students the opportunity to explore our community and to learn about its different and diverse aspects.
